Jenny T. Bencardino, MD, started her academic career as Assistant Professor of Radiology at Harvard Medical School (2000–2003) and was promoted to full Professor of Radiology and Orthopedic Surgery at NYU School of Medicine in 2014. Dr. Bencardino is currently Vice-Chair of Academic Affairs at Montefiore
Eistein. She is also the Chair of the Promotions Committee and Faculty Affairs Liaison for the Department of Radiology.
With a broad educational background, Dr. Bencardino earned her medical degree and diagnostic radiology certification at the Pontificia Universidad Javeriana in Bogota, Colombia in 1991 and 1996, respectively. After relocating to the United States, she completed her residency training in diagnostic radiology at the Long Island Jewish Medical Center-Albert Einstein College of Medicine, and her fellowship in musculoskeletal radiology at the NYU Langone Orthopedic Hospital, formerly known as Hospital for Joint Diseases (HJD) under Drs. Javier Beltran and Zehava Sadka Rosenberg's mentorship.
On a professional level, Dr. Bencardino is an active member of the American College of Radiology (ACR), the ACR Commission for Women and Diversity, the American Board of Radiology DR Certifying MSK Committee, the International Skeletal Society, the Society of Skeletal Radiology, the Radiological Society of North America, and the American Roentgen Ray Society.
Dr. Bencardino is the author of 135 peer-reviewed articles and has served as Guest Editor for MRI Clinics of North America (2012, 2024) and Seminars in Musculoskeletal Imaging (2013, 2022) and is the Section Editor of “Imaging of the Knee” in Insall & Scott Surgery of the Knee, 6th edition (2017). Dr. Bencardino received the “Reviewer of Distinction” award from Skeletal Radiology in 2010 and 2011, the Editor’s Recognition Award with Distinction from Radiology in 2014, and the Editor’s Recognition Award with High Distinction from RadioGraphics in 2023. Dr. Bencardino is the recipient of the 2013 President’s Medal of the International Skeletal Society and the 2023 Medal of the International Skeletal Society. She is the co-Consulting Editor of MRI Clinics.
Education and mentorship have been a major focus of Dr. Bencardino’s career, as reflected in her receipt of the 2014 RSNA Honored Educator award. Her commitment to professional excellence in the field of Radiology was recognized with a Who’s Who lifetime achievement award.
